SABBATH HOUSE

The Sabbath House is a retreat house secluded in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.  Our mission is to provide a place where persons can experience Sabbath.

The Sabbath experience offers opportunities for:

• Rest
• Renewal
• Restoration
• Creativity
• Consultation
• Empowerment

Customized retreat experiences offer clergy aid in dealing with:

• Stress
• Burnout
• Decision making

Retreats are available for clergy, church staff and committees. Individuals and groups other than clergy are also welcome.

The job of a clergy person is not a nine-to-five vocation.  It is a lifestyle that can be physically, emotionally, and spiritually draining.  Will Willimon wisely writes, "It is of great importance to constancy in ministry, in so difficult and demanding a vocation as that of pastor, to cultivate the disciplines of Sabbath observation, refurbishment, recreation, and remembrance of vacation." (Pastor, The Theology and Practice of Ordained Ministry)

The Sabbath House is an ecumenical organization dedicated to providing a supportive environment where clergy may experience a graceful Sabbath.  Ministers who have the opportunity to refresh and restore body and spirit are able to be more effective in their congregations.
